Padma Vibhushan, Bhushan and Shri Awards to Be Conferred This Evening
Droupadi Murmu will present 66 Padma Awards during the first Civil Investiture Ceremony of 2026 at Rashtrapati Bhavan this evening. The honours include Padma Vibhushan, Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri awards recognising excellence across diverse fields.
Droupadi Murmu will confer 66 Padma Awards during the first Civil Investiture Ceremony of 2026 at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi this evening.
The awards to be presented today include 2 Padma Vibhushan honours, 6 Padma Bhushan awards and 58 Padma Shri awards. The remaining recipients will receive their honours during a second round of the Civil Investiture Ceremony scheduled for a later date.
This year, the Government of India announced a total of 131 Padma Awards, comprising 5 Padma Vibhushan, 13 Padma Bhushan and 113 Padma Shri honours. Among the awardees, 19 are women and 16 individuals are being honoured posthumously.
Instituted in 1954, the Padma Awards are among India’s highest civilian honours and are announced annually on the occasion of Republic Day. The awards recognise distinguished and exceptional achievements across a wide range of disciplines including art, literature, education, sports, medicine, social work, science and engineering, public affairs, and trade and industry.
The Civil Investiture Ceremony at Rashtrapati Bhavan is regarded as one of the country’s most prestigious official events, celebrating individuals who have made significant contributions to society and national development.
