Narendra Modi Pushes Fuel Conservation Measures Amid Oil Concerns
Narendra Modi has reportedly reduced the size of his official convoy following his recent appeal for austerity and fuel conservation amid rising global energy concerns linked to the crisis in West Asia.
According to official sources, the downsizing of the prime minister’s convoy was implemented during his recent visits to Gujarat and Assam after his address at a public rally in Hyderabad.
Sources said the reduction was carried out while retaining all essential security arrangements required under Special Protection Group (SPG) protocols.
The prime minister has also reportedly directed officials to include electric vehicles in his convoy wherever feasible, without making fresh vehicle purchases.
During his speech in Hyderabad on Sunday, Modi urged citizens to adopt austerity measures and reduce petrol and diesel consumption. He encouraged greater use of metro rail services, carpooling, electric vehicles, railway parcel transport, and work-from-home practices to help conserve fuel and reduce pressure on foreign exchange reserves.
The appeal comes at a time when global crude oil prices have surged due to geopolitical tensions in West Asia, raising concerns over energy imports and fuel costs in India.
