MP High Court Hears Claims Over Bhojshala–Kamal Maula Complex

The Madhya Pradesh High Court on Wednesday heard arguments in the long-standing dispute over the Bhojshala Temple-Kamal Maula Mosque complex, with the Muslim side stating that historical revenue records classify the site as a mosque and do not clearly mention the existence of a Saraswati temple established by King Raja Bhoj.

The site, located in Dhar district, is claimed by the Hindu community as a temple dedicated to Goddess Saraswati, while the Muslim side identifies it as the Kamal Maula Mosque, a structure dating back to the 11th century.

The complex is protected by the Archaeological Survey of India.

During the hearing before an Indore bench comprising Justices Vijay Kumar Shukla and Alok Awasthi, arguments on behalf of Qazi Moinuddin—who claims descent from Sufi saint Maulana Kamaluddin Chishti—were presented by advocate Noor Ahmed Sheikh.

The case continues to centre on competing historical and religious claims over the disputed site.
