Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that national interest remains the top priority of his government and expressed regret over the failure to secure passage of legislation related to the amendment of the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam.

Addressing the nation, Modi said that despite the government’s sincere efforts, the bill could not be passed, and he apologised to the women of the country. He alleged that opposition parties, including the Indian National Congress, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, Samajwadi Party, and All India Trinamool Congress, opposed a measure aimed at women’s empowerment and balanced representation.

The Prime Minister said the proposed amendment sought to strengthen the voice of all states in Parliament through proportional representation and ensure inclusive empowerment across regions. He further stated that parties opposing women’s reservation would face public accountability for their stance.
