Mizoram Peace Accord Row: Ex-MNF Groups Criticise Chief Minister
Two associations representing former Mizo National Front fighters have criticised Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma over his recent remarks concerning the 1986 Mizoram Peace Accord and Inner Line Permit, saying the agreement brought lasting peace to the state after significant sacrifices.
AIZAWL: Two associations representing former Mizo National Front (MNF) fighters on Saturday strongly criticised Mizoram Chief Minister Lalduhoma over his recent remarks concerning the 1986 Mizoram Peace Accord and the Inner Line Permit (ILP).
The organisations alleged that the Chief Minister’s comments had belittled the significance of the peace agreement, which they said was achieved after the sacrifice of numerous lives and brought an end to a prolonged period of conflict in Mizoram.
Vanlalbia, chairman of the Coordination Committee on Ex-Mizo National Army (MNA) and Peace Accord MNF Returnees Association (PAMRA), said the peace accord had ushered in peace in Mizoram and that its benefits continue to be enjoyed by people across the state.
He further accused Lalduhoma of repeatedly making statements that, according to the association, undermine the importance and legacy of the Mizoram Peace Accord. The remarks have renewed debate in the state over the historical significance of the 1986 agreement and related issues concerning the ILP.
