Dehradun Police has introduced a special traffic management and diversion plan for May 24 in view of the expected surge in vehicle movement caused by the ongoing Char Dham Yatra, Hemkund Sahib Yatra, weekend travel, and summer vacation tourism.

The traffic measures are aimed at easing congestion on routes connecting Mussoorie, Rishikesh, Chakrata, and the Char Dham pilgrimage corridors.

Traffic Circle Officer Ankit Kandari said that due to the significant rise in tourist and pilgrim traffic, the Senior Superintendent of Police had decided to strengthen traffic regulation across the city and adjoining areas.

According to Kandari, the city has been divided into four super zones for better traffic coordination, and around 130 police personnel have been deployed specifically for traffic management duties. Police stations across the city as well as along the Char Dham routes have also been mobilised for the operation.

The police have additionally deployed two drone surveillance teams to monitor vehicle movement and crowd buildup in real time. Authorities said diversion plans have been implemented to prevent excessive traffic from entering congested city areas and to ensure smoother movement of pilgrims and tourists.

The Char Dham Yatra season annually witnesses a sharp increase in traffic across Uttarakhand, especially during weekends and holiday periods, prompting authorities to adopt enhanced crowd and traffic management strategies.
