Bargi Dam Tragedy: Death Toll Rises to Six After Cruise Capsizes in Jabalpur
Search and rescue operations continue; multiple passengers rescued from the water
A tragic boating accident at Bargi Dam in Jabalpur has claimed six lives after a cruise boat capsized, with search and rescue operations continuing at the site.
According to officials, at least 15 people have been rescued so far, while emergency teams are still searching for missing passengers. The death toll has steadily risen—from four initially reported fatalities to six—as recovery efforts progressed.
Rescue personnel, including local authorities and disaster response teams, have been working since early morning to locate survivors and retrieve bodies from the water.
A survivor recounted the horrifying moments, stating that the boat was hit by strong waves, causing damage and panic onboard. He alleged serious lapses in safety, claiming that life jackets were not provided by the crew and had to be arranged and distributed by passengers themselves. The survivor also reported that his wife and son are still missing.
The incident has raised serious concerns over safety protocols and regulatory compliance for tourist and recreational boating services in the region.
Authorities are expected to initiate a detailed investigation into the cause of the accident and alleged negligence.
