The Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) has directed the implementation of actions under Stage-One of the existing Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) across the Delhi-NCR region in response to worsening air quality conditions.

The decision was taken during a meeting of the Sub-Committee on GRAP held today after reviewing the current air quality scenario and weather forecasts issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD).

According to the Commission, Delhi’s Air Quality Index (AQI) was recorded at 208, placing it in the “poor” category. Forecasts suggest that air quality levels are likely to remain in the same category over the coming days.

Under Stage-One of GRAP, all concerned agencies across the National Capital Region have been instructed to intensify anti-pollution measures and ensure strict vigilance to prevent further deterioration in air quality.

Authorities have been directed to enhance dust control mechanisms, monitor industrial emissions, regulate waste burning, and strengthen enforcement against pollution-causing activities.

The Commission also appealed to residents to follow the GRAP Stage-One citizen charter, which includes adopting cleaner transportation methods, reducing unnecessary vehicle use, and supporting pollution-control efforts.

Officials stated that the GRAP Sub-Committee will continue to monitor AQI trends and meteorological forecasts closely and take additional decisions if air quality worsens further.

The Graded Response Action Plan is a set of emergency measures implemented in Delhi-NCR based on the severity of air pollution levels, with stricter controls activated as AQI categories deteriorate from “poor” to “severe” and “severe plus”.

Environmental experts have noted that weather conditions, vehicular emissions, dust, and industrial activity continue to contribute significantly to air pollution levels in the Delhi-NCR region.
