West Bengal Revises Age Limits for State Government Jobs

The Government of West Bengal has increased the upper age limit for recruitment to Group A, B, C and D government posts, with the revised rules taking effect from May 11, 2026.

The Government of West Bengal has announced an increase in the upper age limit for recruitment to various state government posts.

According to the notification, the upper age limit for recruitment to Group ‘A’ posts has been increased to 41 years.

The notification clarified that if the existing upper age limit for any particular Group ‘A’ service or post is already above 41 years, the higher limit will continue unchanged.

For Group ‘B’ posts, the upper age limit has been revised to 44 years.

Meanwhile, the upper age limit for recruitment to Group ‘C’ and Group ‘D’ posts has been raised to 45 years.

The state government said the revised rules will be deemed effective from May 11, 2026.

The move is expected to benefit a large number of government job aspirants by expanding eligibility for recruitment examinations and appointments across departments.

Officials indicated that the decision was taken to provide greater employment opportunities and accommodate candidates who may have faced delays in recruitment cycles in recent years.

The revised age criteria are likely to apply to future recruitment notifications issued by various departments and government agencies in West Bengal.
