West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Saturday stated that the state had earned a negative reputation because of several recruitment scams that allegedly took place during the tenure of the previous government.

Addressing a public gathering, the Chief Minister said that both the Calcutta High Court and the Supreme Court of India had to intervene in matters related to alleged irregularities and illegalities in recruitment processes during the earlier All India Trinamool Congress government.

Adhikari remarked that such controversies had adversely affected the image and credibility of West Bengal. He said there was now a need to bring the state out of the situation and restore public confidence in governance and administrative systems.

The recruitment scam issue has remained a major political and legal controversy in West Bengal in recent years, particularly concerning alleged irregularities in appointments within educational and government sectors. Several investigations and court proceedings related to the matter are currently underway.

The Chief Minister’s remarks come amid continued political debate over accountability, transparency, and institutional reforms in recruitment procedures across the state.
