In West Bengal, the tender for the proposed second Sevoke Bridge over the Teesta River has been cancelled due to administrative reasons. The bridge was planned as an alternative to the historic Coronation Bridge and aimed to connect Sevoke with Ellenbari in Darjeeling district.

The bids for the project were floated on January 2, 2026, with an estimated cost of ₹840.29 crore. The work included construction of a major new bridge and approach roads on National Highway 10, under the management of the National Highways Authority of India.

The proposed bridge was expected to reduce traffic load on the nearly 100-year-old Coronation Bridge and improve connectivity to Sikkim and Northeast India. Construction was originally scheduled to begin in April 2026.
