Orange Rain Alert Issued for Andaman Islands, Bengal and Sikkim
The India Meteorological Department has issued orange alerts for heavy rainfall in parts of the country, while also warning of thunderstorms, heatwave conditions, and strong winds over coastal and marine regions.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert for heavy rainfall over the Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim for tomorrow.
The weather agency said similar heavy rainfall conditions are also expected over Kerala, Mahe, Lakshadweep, Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal and parts of the northeastern region.
According to IMD, thunderstorms accompanied by lightning and gusty winds are likely to affect Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathwada, Odisha, Rayalaseema, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Konkan, Goa, Telangana, Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand over the next two to three days.
The IMD has also forecast heatwave conditions in Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Vidarbha for tomorrow.
In its marine weather advisory, the IMD warned that squally winds are likely along and off the south Somalia coast. Similar sea conditions are expected over the Gulf of Mannar, adjoining Comorin area, large parts of the south Bay of Bengal, east-central Bay of Bengal, adjoining west-central and northeast Bay of Bengal, areas along the Myanmar coast, and the Andaman Sea until Monday.
The weather agency has advised fishermen and coastal communities to remain cautious and avoid venturing into rough sea areas during the warning period.
