Senior Bharatiya Janata Party leader Dilip Ghosh on Saturday said the first BJP government in West Bengal would work to fulfil the aspirations of the people as well as the vision of Syama Prasad Mookerjee.

Speaking ahead of the swearing-in ceremony of the BJP government in the state, the Kharagpur Sadar MLA said the party had struggled for many years to bring political change to Bengal.

“We struggled for a long time. The results have now come, and a regime change has taken place,” Ghosh said.

He added that the new government would focus on meeting public expectations and carrying forward the ideals associated with Syama Prasad Mookerjee, who founded the Bharatiya Jana Sangh, the ideological predecessor of the BJP.

The BJP achieved a historic victory in the recently concluded West Bengal Assembly elections, winning 207 seats in the 294-member assembly and ending the 15-year rule of the All India Trinamool Congress.

Chief minister-elect Suvendu Adhikari is scheduled to take oath later in the day at the Brigade Parade Ground in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and senior NDA leaders.

The formation of the BJP government marks a major political transition in West Bengal, where regional and Left parties had historically dominated the state’s political landscape.
