Minor Girl Found in Sonagachi After Alleged Sale, Two Held
Kolkata Police rescued a 16-year-old girl from Sonagachi within an hour of receiving a distress call after she was allegedly sold to another person. Two men were arrested in connection with the incident, according to police.
KOLKATA: Police rescued a 16-year-old girl from the Sonagachi area of Kolkata within an hour of receiving information that she had allegedly been sold to another person after leaving home with her purported boyfriend, an officer said on Saturday.
The girl, who is a native of North 24 Parganas, was located and rescued from a room in Sonagachi following a call to the police helpline and an email sent to the child helpline. Police subsequently arrested Shafiqul Molla (20) and Saharul Laskar (39) in connection with the case.
According to a senior police officer, a team from Barabazar police station immediately launched a search operation in the Sonagachi area after receiving the information. The girl was traced and rescued within an hour, allowing authorities to ensure her immediate safety.
The police investigation is continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding the alleged sale and identify the roles of those arrested.
