Councillors belonging to the All India Trinamool Congress in the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) on Friday held the civic body’s monthly meeting outside its main chamber after discovering that the chamber had remained locked since morning, party leaders said.

The meeting was eventually conducted in the club room of the civic body located on S N Banerjee Road under the leadership of KMC Chairperson Mala Roy.

According to party leaders, councillors had arrived for the scheduled monthly session only to find the main chamber inaccessible. The reason behind the chamber remaining locked was not immediately known, and no official explanation had been issued at the time of reporting.

The unusual development led councillors to organise the proceedings from an alternate venue within the civic body premises to ensure the meeting could continue without disruption.

The incident has drawn attention within civic and political circles, particularly given the significance of the monthly KMC meetings where municipal matters, civic administration, and policy discussions are typically addressed.
