Kolkata Corporation Mayor Firhad Hakim Launches ‘Green Canopy’ Drive
KOLKATA: Mayor Firhad Hakim kicked off a major urban forestry initiative today titled “Green Canopy” to combat the rising heat islands in Kolkata. Under this plan, the KMC aims to plant over 50,000 indigenous saplings across the city before the monsoon sets in. Hakim emphasized that this project is crucial given the “extreme weather alerts” the city has been receiving and aims to restore the green cover lost during recent cyclones.
