Kolkata Civic Body Warns Builder Over Construction Violations

The Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) has issued a formal notice to M/s Leaps & Bounds Pvt. Ltd. alleging unauthorized construction activities at a premises located on Harish Mukherjee Road in Ward 073 under Borough IX of Kolkata.

The notice was issued under Section 400(1) of the Kolkata Municipal Corporation Act, 1980, which empowers the civic body to take action against illegal or deviated construction works within city limits.

According to officials, the corporation has directed the concerned party to demolish the portions identified as deviated or unauthorized within seven days from the issuance of the notice. Alternatively, the company has been asked to submit an explanation or clarification regarding the alleged violations.

The civic body warned that failure to comply within the stipulated period may result in the corporation carrying out demolition action on its own. In such a case, the expenses incurred during the demolition process would be recovered from the property owner or responsible entity.

Municipal authorities have been intensifying monitoring of construction activities in several parts of Kolkata amid concerns over building safety, illegal modifications, and violations of sanctioned plans.

The notice forms part of KMC’s regulatory measures aimed at ensuring adherence to municipal construction norms and urban planning regulations within the city.

Officials have not yet disclosed the exact nature or extent of the alleged construction deviations at the property. Further proceedings are expected depending on the response submitted by the company and subsequent inspection reports.
