Joint STF Operation Cracks Down on Illegal Arms Network
Police have uncovered an illegal arms manufacturing unit operating from a concealed underground chamber beneath a paper plate factory in Bihar’s Purnea district. Five people were arrested during the joint operation conducted by the Special Task Forces of Bihar and Kolkata, exposing a sophisticated setup allegedly designed to secretly manufacture firearms while avoiding detection.
An illegal arms manufacturing unit operating from a hidden underground chamber in Bihar’s Purnea district was busted in a joint operation by the Bihar Special Task Force and the Kolkata Police Special Task Force, police officials said on Tuesday.
The raid was conducted on Sunday evening at Haripur village under the Damdaha police station area, where authorities discovered a so-called “mini gun factory” functioning beneath a paper plate manufacturing unit.
According to officials, the illegal operation was concealed inside a specially designed underground chamber that was reportedly built to hide manufacturing activities and suppress the sound generated during weapon production.
Police said the hidden setup enabled the accused to continue the illegal arms business without attracting suspicion from nearby residents or authorities.
During the operation, five people were arrested from the site. Investigators are currently questioning the accused to determine the scale of the operation, supply networks, and possible links to criminal groups or illegal arms trafficking networks.
Authorities have not yet disclosed the exact number of weapons, machinery, or raw materials seized during the raid, but officials indicated that the factory was actively involved in manufacturing illegal firearms.
The joint operation highlights growing concerns over clandestine weapon manufacturing units operating in parts of eastern India. Security agencies are now examining whether the recovered arms were being supplied across state borders.
Police said further investigation is underway, and more arrests could follow based on information gathered during interrogation and forensic examination of the seized equipment.
