IMD Predicts Thunderstorms Across Parts of West Bengal
Kolkata witnessed a humid Wednesday morning with temperatures remaining above normal levels, while the India Meteorological Department forecast thunderstorms and light rainfall in several parts of the state. Heavy rain has also been predicted in northern districts amid strong moisture inflow from the Bay of Bengal.
Kolkata experienced a humid morning on Wednesday as weather authorities forecast hot and unstable weather conditions across different parts of West Bengal.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), Kolkata recorded a minimum temperature of 28.7 degrees Celsius, which was two degrees above the seasonal normal.
The city remained under overcast skies during the morning hours, and the weather department indicated the possibility of thunderstorms accompanied by light rainfall in some areas later in the day.
The IMD stated that favourable wind patterns and strong moisture incursion from the Bay of Bengal are likely to trigger thunderstorm activity in districts of north Bengal as well as parts of south Bengal.
Meteorologists have also forecast heavy rainfall in several northern districts of the state over the coming days, particularly in sub-Himalayan regions that are more vulnerable to intense rain activity during the pre-monsoon period.
Officials said the prevailing weather conditions could bring lightning, gusty winds, and intermittent showers to multiple districts, while western parts of the state are expected to continue experiencing hot conditions.
The weather pattern reflects the ongoing seasonal transition ahead of the southwest monsoon, with moisture-laden winds from the Bay of Bengal influencing atmospheric instability across eastern India.
Authorities have advised residents in vulnerable areas to remain cautious during periods of thunderstorm activity and to follow weather advisories issued by the IMD.
