High-Level Advisory Committee Formed to Celebrate Bengali Cinema Icon Uttam Kumar

The West Bengal government has constituted a high-level advisory committee to oversee the year-long birth centenary celebrations of legendary Bengali actor Uttam Kumar, one of the most celebrated figures in Indian cinema. According to an official notification, the committee has been formed to plan and coordinate programmes honouring the actor’s remarkable contribution to Bengali films.

The notification states that Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari has been appointed as the chief patron of the committee. Veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty and Minister of State for Information and Cultural Affairs Purnima Chakraborty have been named co-patrons, reflecting the government’s intention to involve leading personalities from both public life and the film fraternity.

Renowned filmmaker Sandip Ray will serve as the chairman of the advisory committee, while Bengali superstar Prosenjit Chatterjee has also been included in a key role as part of the panel. The committee is expected to organise cultural programmes, film-related events and commemorative activities throughout the centenary year to celebrate the life and legacy of Uttam Kumar, widely regarded as the ‘Mahanayak’ of Bengali cinema.
