Former Trinamool Congress councillor Nirmal Dutta was arrested in Salt Lake, West Bengal, following a complaint filed by BJP candidate Sharadwat Mukhopadhyay over alleged unlawful remarks made during a street-corner election campaign meeting. Dutta, a former councillor of Ward No. 38 in Bidhannagar, was accused of making statements suggesting that voter choices could be tracked through Aadhaar and EPIC-linked systems.

Mukhopadhyay alleged that such claims were unconstitutional and misleading, stating that Dutta’s remarks created fear among voters and violated democratic principles. The arrest has added to rising political tensions in the Bidhannagar constituency ahead of the West Bengal Assembly elections.
