Calcutta High Court Gets Eight New Judges in Latest Judicial Appointments
The Centre has notified the appointment of 30 judges to the Madras, Calcutta, Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh High Courts. The appointments include 20 advocates and 10 judicial officers, with the move expected to help address vacancies and improve the disposal of pending cases.
The Centre has notified the appointment of 30 judges to the High Courts of Madras, Calcutta, Karnataka and Madhya Pradesh, with the Madras High Court receiving the largest number of appointments. According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Law and Justice, the appointments comprise 20 advocates and 10 judicial officers.
Of the 30 appointments, 15 judges have been appointed to the Madras High Court, while 8 have been appointed to the Calcutta High Court. The Karnataka High Court will receive 6 new judges, while one judge has been appointed to the Madhya Pradesh High Court.
The appointments were made by the President of India in consultation with the Chief Justice of India and the Supreme Court Collegium. The newly appointed judges are expected to take their oath and assume office in the coming days.
The appointments are expected to help fill vacancies in the four High Courts and strengthen their judicial capacity, potentially contributing to faster disposal of pending cases.
