Calcutta High Court Directs Health Department to Explain Blood Camp Suspension
The Calcutta High Court has directed the West Bengal Health Department to submit a report by August 14 regarding its order suspending outside voluntary blood donation camps conducted by a private blood bank while an investigation against it is underway.
The Calcutta High Court on Friday directed the West Bengal Health Department to file a report by August 14 regarding its decision to halt outside voluntary blood donation camps organised by a blood bank pending the completion of an ongoing investigation. The directive came while hearing a petition challenging the government’s action.
The petition was filed by Life Care Medical Foundation, which challenged the order issued by the Joint Director of the State Blood Transfusion Council (SBTC) and Blood Transfusion Service at Swasthya Bhawan. The order had instructed the organisation to stop conducting outside voluntary blood donation camps from August 1 until the investigation by the State Blood Transfusion Council (SBTC), West Bengal, is completed.
Hearing the matter, Justice Krishna Rao directed the concerned authorities to place a detailed report before the court by August 14. The case is expected to be taken up after the submission of the report, which will clarify the circumstances surrounding the suspension order and the ongoing investigation.
