A police complaint has been filed against Mamata Banerjee, alleging that certain recent public remarks made by her were detrimental to national sovereignty and public order.

The complaint was submitted on Wednesday at the Cyber Police Station in Siliguri by advocate Rinku Chatterjee Singh, according to police officials.

In the complaint, Singh alleged that Banerjee, through various public speeches, political platforms, and media interactions, made provocative and inflammatory statements against constitutional institutions. The allegations specifically refer to remarks concerning bodies such as the Election Commission of India and the armed forces deployed during the West Bengal Assembly elections.

The advocate also objected to statements that allegedly linked the Union government to a political killing in Bangladesh, contending that such remarks could adversely affect public order and national interests.

According to the complaint, the statements warrant examination under relevant legal provisions due to their potential implications for constitutional institutions and public discourse.

As of now, there has been no official response from Banerjee or the All India Trinamool Congress regarding the complaint. Police authorities have not announced whether a formal case has been registered and are expected to examine the allegations before deciding on further action.

The development comes amid heightened political tensions in West Bengal following recent electoral and organizational developments, with political parties increasingly engaging in sharp exchanges over governance, institutions, and public policy.

Legal experts note that filing a complaint does not imply wrongdoing and that any allegations would need to be assessed by investigating authorities in accordance with applicable laws and procedures.
