More than 100 people reportedly fell ill due to suspected food poisoning after consuming sweets prepared for a wedding function in Rajasthan’s Kotputli-Behror district, officials said on Friday.

The incident took place in Dhani Gaskan village in the Viratnagar area, where villagers began complaining of vomiting, stomach pain and related health complications after eating sweets distributed during the ceremony.

According to officials, around 105 people, including several children, were affected after consuming sweets such as rasmalai that had been prepared for the wedding function on Thursday night and distributed on Friday.

Medical teams and local authorities rushed to the area after reports of multiple people falling ill surfaced.

Affected villagers were provided medical treatment, and health officials are monitoring the condition of patients while investigating the exact cause of the suspected food contamination.

Authorities are also expected to examine the preparation and storage conditions of the sweets to determine whether contamination or improper handling led to the incident.

Food poisoning cases linked to mass gatherings and celebrations occasionally occur during extreme weather conditions when dairy-based food items are not stored properly.
