India Evacuates 2,361 Citizens from Iran; Withdraws from COP33 Hosting Bid
Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said India has safely evacuated 2,361 citizens from Iran since the outbreak of the regional conflict. Of the total evacuees, 2,060 returned via Armenia and 301 through Azerbaijan. The group includes 1,041 Indian students, along with three foreign nationals from Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, and Guyana who were also assisted during the evacuation process.
On the 33rd United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP33), Jaiswal confirmed that India has withdrawn from the hosting bid after considering multiple factors. However, he stressed that India remains firmly committed to its climate goals and has fulfilled its obligations under the Paris Agreement. He added that India will continue advancing its green agenda and promoting global climate action through partnerships such as the International Solar Alliance.
