FSSAI Cracks Down on E-Commerce Food Violations, ₹6 Lakh Penalty Imposed
In a major enforcement action to protect consumer health, the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has taken strict measures against violations in the e-commerce food sector following multiple consumer complaints.
The operation was conducted by the Northern Regional Office under the supervision of Devesh Kumar Mahla, ensuring compliance with the provisions of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006.
Authorities received several complaints regarding the sale of expired and spoiled food products through online platforms. Acting swiftly, Central Food Safety Officers carried out detailed inspections and investigations, during which significant non-compliance with food safety norms was identified.
Following the probe, the case was taken up in the court of the Additional District Commissioner (ADC) in Gurugram. The court imposed a penalty of ₹6 lakh on the e-commerce Food Business Operator (FBO) for violations of the Act.
The crackdown highlights FSSAI’s increased vigilance over online food sales and reinforces its commitment to ensuring that consumers receive safe and hygienic food products.
