The Maharashtra health department has initiated precautionary measures in Nandurbar district after bird flu cases were reported among poultry birds in the region. Officials confirmed that samples of eight poultry workers have been sent to the National Institute of Virology for testing related to possible human avian influenza infection.

According to district health officer Ravindra Sonawane, the workers had either direct contact with infected poultry birds or were involved in culling operations carried out to control the outbreak. However, none of the individuals have shown symptoms associated with human avian flu so far.

As a preventive measure, health authorities have started administering medication to the workers while keeping them under observation. Surveillance activities have also been intensified in the affected areas to ensure early detection of any possible human transmission.

Nandurbar district in northwestern Maharashtra has recently reported bird flu cases among poultry, prompting authorities to undertake containment and sanitisation measures. Veterinary and health teams are jointly monitoring the situation to prevent further spread of the infection.

Officials stated that avian influenza primarily affects birds, but people who come into close contact with infected poultry remain at higher risk of exposure. Health departments generally follow strict monitoring protocols in such situations, including testing, isolation measures if required, and preventive medication.

The samples sent to NIV Pune are expected to confirm whether any human infection has occurred. Meanwhile, authorities have urged poultry workers and residents in affected regions to follow safety guidelines and immediately report symptoms such as fever, cough, or breathing difficulties.
