Export duty on diesel slashed to ₹23/litre, ATF to ₹33/litre; no impact on domestic petrol and diesel prices

The Government of India has reduced the windfall gains tax on the export of diesel and aviation turbine fuel (ATF), offering relief to exporters amid fluctuating global energy prices.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Finance, the special additional excise duty on diesel exports has been cut sharply from ₹55.5 per litre to ₹23 per litre. Similarly, the tax on ATF exports has been reduced from ₹42 per litre to ₹33 per litre, with the revised rates coming into effect from Friday.

The government clarified that there will be no change in the existing excise duty rates on petrol and diesel meant for domestic consumption, ensuring that retail fuel prices for consumers remain unaffected.

The move reflects a calibrated approach to align export duties with international market conditions while maintaining price stability within the domestic market.
