The resolution praised The Bear for bringing international attention to the Italian Beef sandwich and highlighting Illinois’ rich food culture. The statement described the sandwich as one of the great culinary creations of the American Midwest and an important symbol of the state’s gastronomic identity.

The Italian Beef sandwich, traditionally made with thinly sliced seasoned roast beef served in a long roll and often dipped in savoury gravy, has long been a staple of Chicago cuisine.
