Shimla Police Crack Down After Schoolboy Dies Near Construction Site

Contractor among accused held after 14-year-old boy died from injuries caused by falling brick in Shimla area

Two men, including a contractor, were arrested on Monday in connection with the death of a 14-year-old boy who was fatally injured after being struck by a falling brick from an under-construction building in the Sanjauli area of Shimla last month, police said.

The arrested accused were identified as Muhammad Iqbal, 47, a resident of Saharanpur district in Uttar Pradesh, and Avneet, 32, from Jalaun village in Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh.

Police officials added that the owner of the under-construction structure, Shanta Lal Chopra, had already been arrested on Sunday in connection with the case.

According to investigators, the incident occurred on April 29 when Tanish Kaushal, a Class IX student of Sacred Heart Convent School in Dhalli, was returning home.

A brick allegedly fell from the construction site and struck the teenager on the head, leaving him critically injured. He later succumbed to his injuries.

The tragic incident triggered widespread concern among local residents over safety standards at construction sites in densely populated urban areas.

Police are continuing their investigation into possible negligence and violations of construction safety regulations connected to the building project.

Authorities are also examining whether proper protective measures had been implemented at the construction site to prevent such accidents.
