Passenger Arrested for Alleged Gold Smuggling From San Francisco

The Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) of Customs officials at Indira Gandhi International Airport intercepted an American national of Indian origin and seized 115 gold bars weighing 3,565 grams.

Officials said the passenger had arrived in New Delhi on Air India flight AI-4174 from San Francisco.

According to Customs authorities, the gold bars were concealed in specially designed inner pockets stitched into the passenger’s trousers. The suspect was intercepted after allegedly attempting to pass through the Green Channel without declaring the gold.

The seized contraband has been confiscated under Section 110 of the Customs Act, 1962. The passenger has also been arrested under Section 104 of the same Act.

Officials stated that further investigation is underway to determine the source, intended destination, and possible smuggling network linked to the seizure.

Gold smuggling through airports remains a significant concern for enforcement agencies, with Customs authorities frequently intercepting attempts to illegally bring precious metals into the country to evade import duties.
