Three Family Members Arrested in Belagavi Woman’s Murder
Three people have been arrested in connection with the alleged honour killing of a woman from Nadi Gudi Kshetra village in Belagavi district, Karnataka, who was reportedly poisoned to death by relatives over an alleged extramarital relationship. Belagavi Superintendent of Police K. Ramarajan said the woman was targeted after continuing her relationship with Krishna Patel following her marriage to another man.
According to police, tensions escalated when her family tried to stop the relationship, culminating in a violent confrontation in March in Maharashtra’s Shirol village, where her mother allegedly forced her to consume poison. The accused arrested include her uncle Prakash Bhimappa Halvar, her brother Shanur Sadashiv Helvar, and her sister’s husband Kalappa. Although the incident occurred in Maharashtra, the case was registered at Ankali Police Station in Karnataka due to the victim’s local connection. Further investigation is underway.
