Four Arrested with Heroin and Drug Money in Guruharsahai
Punjab Police has arrested four accused persons and seized over 28 kilograms of heroin along with ₹9.5 lakh in suspected drug money during an operation in Guruharsahai, dealing a major blow to a cross-border narcotics smuggling network.
In a major breakthrough against narcotics trafficking, Punjab Police Counter Intelligence unit in Ferozepur has busted a cross-border drug smuggling module with the arrest of four accused persons.
Police recovered 28.12 kilograms of heroin and ₹9.5 lakh in suspected drug money during the operation conducted in Guruharsahai.
According to preliminary investigations, the smuggling network allegedly maintained links with foreign-based smugglers and handlers who tasked the accused with receiving narcotics consignments and distributing them within Indian territory.
Officials said further investigation is underway to establish both forward and backward linkages of the network and identify additional individuals connected to the operation. Authorities also indicated that more arrests and recoveries are expected in the coming days as the probe progresses.
Punjab Police reiterated its commitment to maintaining strict vigilance against cross-border smuggling and enforcing a zero-tolerance policy toward narco-crime.
Punjab, due to its proximity to the international border, has frequently witnessed attempts by transnational drug trafficking networks to smuggle narcotics into India using various routes and methods. Security agencies have intensified anti-narcotics operations in recent years to dismantle such networks and curb the flow of illegal drugs.
