Central Bureau of Investigation on Tuesday evening took custody of a man from Nashik in connection with the alleged NEET paper leak case, officials said.

The accused, identified as Shubham Khairnar, a 30-year-old resident of Nandgaon in Nashik district, was earlier detained by Crime Branch Unit 2 of the Nashik Police following a request from the Rajasthan Police.

According to Deputy Commissioner of Police Kirankumar Chauhan, Khairnar was apprehended from the Indiranagar area of Nashik city.

The custody transfer comes as the CBI intensifies its nationwide investigation into alleged irregularities and paper leaks linked to the NEET-UG 2026 examination. The agency has already registered a formal case and deployed special investigation teams to probe the matter across multiple states.

The NEET-UG controversy has triggered widespread concern among students and parents after the examination was cancelled amid allegations of malpractice and breach of examination integrity.
