An FIR has been lodged against Dhullu Mahato, Jairam Mahato, and several others in connection with a road blockade protest held in Jharkhand’s Bokaro district following the murder of a Dalit woman.

According to police officials, the case was registered at the Bermo police station on Monday night based on a complaint filed by Sub-Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Mukesh Kumar Machua. The FIR names the two political leaders along with 10 other individuals.

Speaking to the media, Bermo Sub-Divisional Police Officer Ravinder Kumar stated that the accused allegedly encouraged and supported protesters who blocked the Dumri-Phuso road for nearly 18 hours on Friday night.

The police complaint alleges that the prolonged blockade caused significant inconvenience to the public and hindered government officials from carrying out their duties. Authorities have invoked relevant legal provisions concerning obstruction of public servants and disruption of public order.

The FIR further claims that certain individuals misled family members of the deceased woman and placed her body on the roadway as part of the protest. Demonstrators were demanding swift action and the arrest of those responsible for the alleged murder.

Police have initiated an investigation into the allegations mentioned in the FIR. Officials are examining the circumstances surrounding the protest, the role of those named in the complaint, and whether any laws were violated during the agitation.

The case has added a political dimension to an already sensitive matter, with attention now focused on both the murder investigation and the legal proceedings arising from the protest.
