The Uttar Pradesh government has directed the opening of potato procurement centres in 10 districts to provide relief to farmers, with operations beginning on Tuesday in Lucknow and Farrukhabad.

According to an official statement, the decision was taken during a review meeting of the horticulture department chaired by Dinesh Pratap Singh, who holds independent charge of Horticulture, Agricultural Marketing and Agricultural Export.

The statement said the Uttar Pradesh State Horticultural Cooperative Marketing Federation has been entrusted with establishing procurement centres across 10 districts.

Lucknow and Farrukhabad were given priority in the first phase, with procurement operations already underway. The move is aimed at ensuring better prices for farmers and easing distress sales of potato produce.
