Eastern Railway Sets Four-to-Five-Year Timeline for Rs 12,000 Crore Expansion

Eastern Railway is implementing ongoing line capacity expansion projects involving an investment of around Rs 12,000 crore, with the works scheduled to be carried out over the next four to five years.

Eastern Railway General Manager Gitika Pandey made the announcement while speaking at the CII Rail Synergy & Bengal MSME Vendor Connect Summit 2026.

Pandey said the investment is focused on creating additional route capacity in the Eastern Railway region. The expansion is expected to support the railway network’s ability to handle increasing operational requirements.

The projects form part of Eastern Railway’s ongoing efforts to strengthen infrastructure and expand line capacity across its network.
