ACC Appoints New Chairperson for Chennai Port Authority
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has appointed IAS officer Sachin Sharatachandra Kurve as the new Chairperson of the Chennai Port Authority.
The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) has appointed Sachin Sharatachandra Kurve, an Indian Administrative Service officer from the Uttarakhand cadre, as the Chairperson of the Chennai Port Authority.
According to an official order, Kurve’s appointment will be for a tenure of five years from the date he assumes charge of the post, or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
The Chennai Port Authority is one of India’s major ports and plays a crucial role in maritime trade, cargo movement and logistics operations in the southern region.
As chairperson, Kurve is expected to oversee port administration, infrastructure development, operational efficiency and strategic initiatives aimed at strengthening the port’s competitiveness and cargo handling capabilities.
The appointment comes at a time when Indian ports are focusing on capacity expansion, digital transformation and improved logistics connectivity under the government’s broader maritime development initiatives.
Industry observers believe experienced administrative leadership will be key in supporting infrastructure modernisation and trade facilitation efforts at major ports across the country.
