300-Foot Altitude Loss on Air India Flight Under Independent Probe
The Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) will conduct an independent and evidence-based investigation into an Air India flight that experienced a sudden loss of approximately 300 feet in altitude during cruise. The aircraft later stabilised and landed safely in Delhi.
The Ministry of Civil Aviation has said that the Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) will conduct a thorough investigation into the recent Air India flight incident, examining all available facts and evidence before reaching any conclusions.
The incident occurred on August 4, when an Air India aircraft operating from Phuket to Delhi experienced a sudden loss of altitude of approximately 300 feet during cruise. The aircraft subsequently stabilised and landed safely in Delhi.
The Ministry said the AAIB is currently undertaking the systematic collection, preservation and examination of relevant evidence. This includes technical, operational, medical and human-factor evidence connected with the occurrence.
According to the Ministry, all material evidence will be assessed before determining the circumstances and contributing factors behind the incident. The investigation will also identify appropriate safety measures to help prevent a recurrence.
The Ministry stressed that the investigation is independent, evidence-based and comprehensive, and cautioned against drawing conclusions from any individual piece of information while the probe is ongoing.
It further said that records, statements, medical information and other material collected during the investigation are protected and confidential under the applicable investigation framework.
The AAIB has urged the media and the public to respect the investigation process and avoid drawing conclusions based on incomplete, unverified or selectively available information.
