Indian Army Announces Command Change in Srinagar Corps
Leadership transition marks end of 19-month tenure; new commander pays tribute at Srinagar war memorial
Prashant Srivastava has relinquished command of the Chinar Corps after completing a 19-month tenure, according to PRO (Defence), Srinagar.
His tenure was marked by key operational and security milestones, including the execution of Operation Sindoor and Operation Mahadev, which led to action against perpetrators of the Pahalgam attack. The period also saw the smooth and incident-free conduct of the Amarnath Yatra 2025, along with several nation-building initiatives.
Lt Gen Srivastava will now take over as Quarter Master General at the Integrated Headquarters of the Ministry of Defence (Army) in New Delhi.
Meanwhile, Balbir Singh, a decorated and experienced officer, has assumed command of the Chinar Corps on May 1, 2026. Upon taking charge, he paid homage at the Chinar War Memorial, honouring soldiers who made the supreme sacrifice.
The transition marks a significant leadership change in one of the Indian Army’s key operational formations in Jammu and Kashmir.
