Telecom Regulatory Authority of India on Monday released a consultation paper on the “Proliferation of Public Wi-Fi Networks in India” to seek stakeholder views on expanding public Wi-Fi infrastructure across the country.

The paper reviews the existing regulatory framework and identifies challenges that may be slowing the growth of public Wi-Fi networks.

According to the Ministry of Communications, the consultation also invites suggestions on measures to accelerate deployment and improve access to public Wi-Fi services nationwide.

Key areas covered in the paper include an overview of public Wi-Fi ecosystems in other countries, lessons from international experiences, and global best practices.

It also examines the current status of public Wi-Fi in India, including deployment trends, usage demand patterns, and barriers affecting expansion.
